ImageBioCentrum is equipped with a state-of-the-art LC/MS system based on Dionex Ultimate 3000 and Ultimate 3000 RS liquid chromatography systems with DAD and four channel UV-VIS detection system coupled with a Bruker HCT mass spectrometer used as a secondary detector. The mass spectrometer uses the electro-spray ionization (ESI) as an ion source while mass analysis is done by means of an high capacity ion trap. Thus, MS and MS(n) scans are available, which further expands the analytical capability of the LC/MS system.

The combination of liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry is a powerful analytical technique, which enables us to rapidly separate, identify and quantify substances on a trace level. The LC/MS system as a whole is capable of performing simple HPLC UV-VIS detection chromatography when needed, but we routinely employ it as a sophisticated analytical tool, where each data point on the chromatogram is represented as a mass or/and UV-VIS spectrum.
