Molecular mass: 23.4 kDa

Description: This enzyme degrades collagen and proteoglycan. Pathologically, it is involved in damage of connective tissue at pulmonary emphysema and rheumatoid arthritis.

Form: Lyophilized from 50 mM acetate buffer pH 5.5 containing 0.25 M NaCl.

Purity: More that 95% in SDS-PAGE. Two major and two minor bands in 7% PAGE at pH 4.5 both enzymatically active. One major and two minor bands in SDS-PAGE (electrophoresis according to Schagger & von Jagow, left lane: MW standards - 116, 66, 45, 35, 25, 18, 14, 6.5, 2.5 kDa and three right lanes: 1 - 5 ug of cathepsin G):

Activity: 2-4 U/mg, one unit will release one micromole of p-nitroanilide per minute from Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Phe-pNA at pH 8.0 and 25^C. Approximately 90% active by titration with alpha-1-antitrypsin (previously reactive site titrated).
